The persecuted Christians of Iraq

This excellent article by Robin Harris describes in vivid detail the suffering being endured by the 2000 year old Christian community in Iraq. The attacks the Christians are suffering are racial as well as religious: the Chaldo-Assyrians are descended from the indigenous population of Iraq, from before it was invaded and conquered by Arab Muslims many centuries ago.

Under Saddam Hussein, Iraq was undoubtedly a brutal place. He was an evil man. However, he did one thing very effectively: he kept a lid on all the other bad guys, such as the nutters of al-Qaeda. Members of religious minorities were not treated any worse than anyone else.

The invasion and war has destroyed all that. It has brought freedom for many Muslims and persecution for all Christians in Iraq. Tragically, the 'political correctness' of the British and American governments does not permit them to care what happens to Christians.
